Rebuttal Proposal

I plan to write a rebuttal countering an article that appeared in an issue of the center daily times on the placement of a landfill in Rush Township.  The article argues on the side of “not here, not now,” to which I disagree.  This piece will be written in the form of a letter to the opposition of the construction on a landfill.  This is an issue many citizens care about because it is happening in near there own homes.  Everyone knows what a landfill is, but I do not believe they have sufficient knowledge of modern landfills.  Modern landfills are much more efficient and do not drain the environment as much as many believe they do.

Those opposing landfill construction usually take the stance of “not here, not now,” and similar resistance is encountered all over the country.  If nobody wants a landfill then what is to be done with his or her waste?  It cannot be made to vanish it must be placed somewhere and a landfill is better than everyone taking care of their own waste.  I aim to persuade the audience through conceding points and the presentation of facts and benefits of the necessity of the landfill.  Today’s technology allows waste to be taken care of in a very efficient manner and the construction of “waste to energy” facilities in turn reduce the use of other forms of energy turning trash to treasure.  The jobs created by the landfill cannot be overlooked because it will provide people of many qualifications with secure jobs because of the constant need for waste management.  The project will also provide the entire township with funds to improve educational facilities and for environmental cleanup projects.  All in all I believe this project will benefit the community in which it is placed and will convince my audience of this through a letter written in response to the article.
