My Town
Well lets see. I live in a little place known as the "village of Tillotson" consisting of approximately 10-20 households. It is really just an intersection of a State Highway and some other road. It is named the village of Tillotson because of the Tillotson families that lived on the corner. It isn't even important enough to have its own address or anything, but it is on the map of PA. According to my Address though i am a resident of Union City, PA and according to my phone number i belong to Lincolnville. I attend school in Union City and am considered a Union City resident. I live about 1-2 miles from Canadohto Lake, the 2nd largest Natural lake in Pennsylvania. It is full of weeds in fist but once you get out far enought it is good swimming and good fishing. To get to the lake I head in a North-West direction at the intersection. if i was to take the opposite direction I would pass my church a mile up the road and after a 10 minute drive reach spartansburg, a town with a high Amish population. I pass several Amish houses along the way and usually one or two buggys. if I was to head up Hwy 8 in a Northeasterly direction I would come to Union City after a 3-5 minute drive depending on how much led is in my shoe. It is a relatively small farming community but it does have some history to it.
Union City was originally known as Miles Mills after the founder and was created after oil was discovered in the nearby town of Titusville at Drake's well. The population sprung up instantly around the tracks still running through the center of town. Many barrels of oil would be shipped through each day. The town began to develop many factories and at one time even had a mouse-trap factory. The name was then changed to Union Mills after dissassociation with the founder and eventually Union City. The oil eventually depleted and Union City began to fall downhill. French Creek contributed to the drop in population due to seasonal flooding wish washed away homes. The town gets worse even to this day (economy wise that is). The biggest factory in town, Cherry Hill, a division of Ethan Allen, closed leaving hundreds without a job. The Town does have a very nice school though, recently rebuilt. Our sports programs are great also, our boys cross country team won the FCVC (French Creek Valley Conference) for 21 years strait losing only the very last year that the FCVC would exist (2003-2004) before it would merge with the ECL (Erie County League). Our Boys basketball were not only the last FCVC champs but won district 10 and will go on to the state level in Hershey, playing seat 6 in district seven. Our town does have a bad rap though, something about incest, I am not even sure how it came about, in fact many don't, I moved here in Fourth grade. I just hear the jokes now and then and that is about it. Like every town Union City has its weirdos and the good thing about a small town is everybody knows everybody. I can say "hey did you ever see that lady who is bald on the top of her head, has a mullet, is disgustingly fat, and smells funny" and they will say "yep."
I would like to take you on a tour of the town and shows you some of Union City's grade A weirdos and other features. enjoy:
Photos coming soon
